My top 25 NCAA Basketball Preseason Teams
1. North Carolina - has the best player in the Nation, great depth, great at all positions and led by a Hall of Fame Coach.
2. Michigan State - Roe is healthy. And Izzo becomes great during Tourney time.
3. U of L - as a Kentucky fan I have to be honest. Great starting five, great bench. And their coach should already be in the Hall of Fame.
4.Connecticut - I know their coach (Jim Calhoun) is 104, but he can still recruit and has won before. Great players coming back from last year.
5. Memphis - not a fan. But let's face the facts. They play nobody during conference play. This means they don't take a beating like Big East, ACC and SEC teams.
6. Oklahoma - has the second best player in the nation (Blake Griffin). Should be the team to beat coming out of the Big 12.
7. Duke - once again Coach K will play a cup-cake non conference schedule, win 20 games and get a very overrated seed - like they have the past 5 straight years.
8. Texas - Inside game looks good. Added a Euro player (Balbay) who can shoot.
9. Notre Dame - Returning is Harangody, the Big East player of the Year and a decent back court. Another tough team from the Big East.
10. Gonzaga - The Zags have most of last year's starters returning. Like Memphis, they play a very weak conference schedule.
11. Miami - Since they suck at football now, many Miami fans and sport writers are hyped about their basketball team. They look good on paper.
12. UCLA - Most people have them in their top 5 or 8. Not me. Lost their best player. However, great players, great coach. And we are talking about UCLA.
13. Purdue - Maybe the surprise team coming out of the Big 10. We sure know Indiana sucks.
14. Wake Forest - Hey, we gotta add someone besides North Carolina and Duke in the top 25. The ACC is known for basketball. Wake played great basketball last year.
15. Florida - They had a down year last year. Look for them to bounce back. I also believe Tennessee is over hyped. Billy D didn't win two championships for being a joke either.
16. USC - Depends on if Stepheson is eligible this season. If so, USC may have the best 1-2 duo in the Nation.
17. Tennessee - Most overrated team in the nation this year and last. With that said, the SEC seems down once again. The Vols can easily pull of another 20 plus win season. But Pearl, you're still second best to the women's team.
18. Davidson - Best Mid-Major other than Memphis out there. Oh yeah, they have that Curry kid also.
19. UNLV - Another Mid-Major. Unlike Memphis and the others, they have won a National Championship in their History.
20. Kansas - Kansas will be down a lot from last year. However, they are the super power of the Big 12 when it comes to basketball. A lot of history also behind the name.
21. LSU - after having a fluke season, look for LSU to recover in the weak SEC. They also return four starters.
22. Wisconsin - Come on, they are playing in the terrible Big 10. With Indiana being a joke, keep an eye on the Badgers.
23. Arizona - Three starters back and a hall of fame coach guiding them.
24. Syracuse - Don't ask why.... I guess I am judging them by their history and past.
25. Saint Mary's - Hey, you always got to have a team people don't think about normally. So here is mine.
Teams which can prove something or bust
Kentucky - great history, a joke the past two seasons.
Villanova - They will either go 24 and 8, or 13 and 19.
Xavier - Top 25 one year, a joke the next.
Texas A&M - Wins 10 games in a row, then turns around and loses 3 of 4 every year it seems.
Georgetown - Was last year's "Bust of the Year" during the NCAA Tourney.
2. Michigan State - Roe is healthy. And Izzo becomes great during Tourney time.
3. U of L - as a Kentucky fan I have to be honest. Great starting five, great bench. And their coach should already be in the Hall of Fame.

Kentucky Basketball - feelings about the 2008-2009 season
As a long time Kentucky fan, I am a little worried about the upcoming Basketball season. Last year team was the worst team I'd ever witness besides the team that was on probation due to Sutton. My dad who is 75, has seen hundreds of UK games and dozens of UK teams in his life. He like me, agreed this was one of the worst UK teams he had ever seen.
If Meeks can stay healthy, UK may be alright. I believe his health will be the factor on whether or not we see another 18 and 13 team, or a 25 and 8 team ranked in the top 25.
We already know that Patrick Patterson is a beast. Unless he gets hurt, I look for him to have a breakout season. I am predicting him averaging around 19 a game and pulling down 9 boards a game. He will also be a contender for SEC player of the year.
The point guard position is what scares me. Unlike U of L, that has 3 or 4 guys who can bring the ball up court, who can we trust at UK? Being a UK fan I am used to Sean Woods,Anthony Epps, Wayne Turner and Travis Ford. Bradley could score but lacked all other skills of being a true point guard. UK looks no better, and sadly, even worse this year. I look for teams like U of L that have good back courts to totally destroy UK this year.
Since practices really prove nothing, I can only judge UK on what I see on paper. I hate to say this, but I see another bad team. I am not sure the total numbers of games they play, but put me down for them going 20 and 12, and losing in the first round again.

Artis Gilmore - why is he not in the Basketball Hall of Fame
Gilmore may be the greatest basketball player not in the Hall of Fame. Why is beyond me. I am not sure what it is he did in life that caused Sports Writers not to like him. Many of his stats rank him among the elite. His stats are also superior to many others that are in the Hall of Fame.
Gilmore began his pro career with the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA. He quickly became one of the ABA's biggest superstars and best players. He holds the ABA record in field goal percentage .557,career blocked shots 750, blocked shots in a season 287 during the 1973-74 season and most rebounds in a game with 40. He was also the 1974 Finals MVP.
As a NBA player, Gilmore was also a star. He was a 6 time all-star. He led the NBA in field goal percentage four consecutive seasons and holds the NBA record for career field goal percentage at .599.
Below are his career highlights
5x All-ABA First Team (1972-76)
5x ABA All-Defensive First Team (1972-76)
5x ABA All-Star (1972-76)
ABA MVP (1972)
ABA Rookie of the Year (1972)
ABA All-Star Game MVP (1974)
ABA Playoff MVP (1975)
1x NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1978)
6x NBA All-Star (1978, 1979, 1981-83, 1986)
ABA's All-Time Team (1997)
NBA career leader in field goal percentage
Gilmore is among pro-basketball's top 25 all-time scorers, top ten career rebounds and blocked shots.
His career stats are clearly superior to people such as Kevin Mchale, Joe Dumas and James Worthy, among many others. One would think Gilmore would have been an easy choice as a Hall of Famer. For odd reasons Gilmore has never been elected.
U of L and UK Football - Who is better now?
I am a die hard Kentucky Fan. After seeing them blow out U of L during the season opener and hanging close against Alabama, I truly thought Kentucky would finish 8 and 4 during the season.
Injury after injury has changed my opinion about that. I am not sure if Kentucky can even pull off a 7 and 5 season. Heck, after seeing them play Florida (which was a total nightmare) I'd be happy seeing them go 6 and 6.
U of L on the other hand has many things going in their favor. First off, they are much more healthier. Their schedule is also nothing like that of UK. U of L has a very legit shot at either an 8 and 4 record and even a 9 and 3 record. No one in the Big East really stands out. Every team left on U of L's schedule is beatable. And the Cards look much better then they did in game one against UK.
One thing U of L has that UK doesn't is a running game. UK cannot run the ball against any good defensive team. Proof of that was clearly seen against Florida. Besides the UK and UConn game, U of L has looked good rushing the ball.
U of L freshman have also looked good. Besides Cobb, who does UK have that looks like a future star? And even Cobb is unproven. He's only getting playing time because UK sucks at the QB position. If Woodson was still there Cobb wouldn't even be a name talked about.
If UK and U of L were to play today, I'd say U of L would win 17 - 7. Again, I am a die hard Kentucky fan. U of L has improved game by game. Kentucky has done the exact opposite.

NFL Bust of the Year - goes to Peyton Manning
So far Peyton Manning has been anything but great. Manning is in my opinion, the best quarterback in the NFL and already in the top 5 or 6 of all time. With that said, what a bust he has been this year.
Manning QB rating is currently at 79.0, much lower than his career average of 94.0. He has thrown 10 touchdowns but also thrown 9 picks. He is also only averaging 6.6 yards per play, 1.1 lower than his career average. Not only that, the Colts are 3-4.
Of course Manning teammates haven't been much help. Marvin Harrison is playing like age 50. And the Colts running game ranks last in the NFL in yards per game. Much of the Colts offensive line is also banged up leading to numerous sacks and hurries against Manning. With that said, Manning has made a many Fantasy League players have nightmares and vomit.

Current MVP of the NFL
If the NFL season ended right now the MVP would in my opinion would go to Clinton Portis.
This past Sunday Portis rushed for 126. This was the 6th straight game in a row he did this, and the second time of his career. He and OJ Simpson are the only two NFL players to accomplish this feat.
On the season Portis has already rushed for 944 yards, averaging 5.0 yards per carry and has 7 touchdowns. If he keeps this up, he is on pace for nearly 1900 yards on the season, which would rank him among the top 10 for most rushing yards in a season.
Of course he may fall off pace and rush for a total much less than that. I believe down the stretch that Drew Brees will challenge him for the MVP. Brees being a quarterback has too many weapons that Portis does not. Running backs also tend to tire down by week 12 or 13. However, as of right now, Portis is player of the year after 8 games.
